MGS Ministry Update 2.9.16: God is Awesome!!!

by Kaitlyn Mason

About a month ago, I was praying that God would help this ministry to reach its full potential – whatever that may be. I prayed that He would help us to reach as many women and families as possible. The response was immediate: “What if I told you that you can’t do it without the rosary?”

“In God we have boasted all the day long; your name we will praise forever.” – Psalm 44:9

About a month ago, I was praying that God would help this ministry to reach its full potential – whatever that may be. I prayed that He would help us to reach as many women and families as possible.

The response was immediate: “What if I told you that you can’t do it without the rosary?” I was instantly humbled. I truly feel that God heard my prayer, and was telling me that Mary Garden Showers couldn’t reach its full potential without the help of some strong, powerful intercession and prayer.

Around this time, we were praying that we would be connected with a Mother in need. There was kind of a lull in activity and we weren’t receiving any referrals for Mothers in crisis pregnancies who needed baby showers. We had already cancelled our January shower because of this, and were hoping to still have one in February. We picked up our rosaries, continued saying the Memorare prayer, and just watched and waited.

Then we received a call. A woman in need was experiencing a crisis pregnancy and was expecting a baby at the end of the month. She was told she could give birth any day. Her family was in need of several items before the baby’s arrival. And she had never had a baby shower before for any of her other children!

We received this call seven days ago.

In just one week, we were able to connect with the Mother and take her out on a registry outing to Target where she selected items for her very own baby registry. Our Church was able to reschedule our February shower date to Valentine’s Day in the afternoon to accommodate this family’s needs. We’ve shared the registry information with people all over the country who receive our email newsletter (sign up here), and people have already started shopping and sending gifts to the Church!!

We had a sponsor lined up for our February shower, but when the date changed, the woman was unable to attend. No problem, we thought. We’ll make this work.

Little did we know, we wouldn’t have to do much…

At a Super Bowl Party on Sunday, I met a baker who has been looking for a ministry to plug into that would like to receive cakes and cupcakes as a donation. How often does this happen? You randomly meet a baker looking for a ministry that needs baked goods… When you co-direct a baby shower ministry for women in crisis pregnancies??

That has God written all over it.

Then we ended up with some opened, non-returnable snack packs and drinks from a recent pro-life event in our Diocese that we’re able to provide for guests.

Then we found out about The Joy Womb Project, which is a new organization in Charlotte that provides diaper cakes for pro-life events and for women in crisis pregnancies. They would like to provide a beautiful diaper cake for the shower!

So here we are… 5 days away from our next Mary Garden Shower. And all I have to say is… God is awesome!!!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to say a rosary – because our ministry runs on prayer power!

Please join us in prayer as we thank God for this Mother and this precious baby boy about to enter the world. And pray that our baby shower for her this Valentine’s Day can be a testament to God’s constant love and care for her and her family. Peace be with you!
